My Tips For Making Your Wedding Feel Personal Without DIYing Absolutely Everything

Heyyyy, it’s Rachel here 👋
One thing I absolutely love about Woodstock couples is how creative you all are.
We get so many couples wanting to add DIY touches to their wedding day and I’m such a fan of it when it’s done in a way that feels meaningful and personal to you both.
Because DIY weddings aren’t just about saving money. Of course sometimes they can help with budgets, but for me, the best DIY details are always the ones that make guests walk in and instantly think:
“Yep… this feels so them.”
And that’s what makes a wedding memorable.
I think sometimes couples feel pressure to DIY absolutely everything, but truthfully, you really don’t need to.
In fact, the weddings that tend to have the biggest impact are usually the ones where couples have focused on a few thoughtful details rather than trying to make every single thing themselves.
Things like personalised table names, handmade place cards, welcome signs, little details that reflect your personalities or your story together… those are the bits people notice.
I also think people naturally focus a lot on the tables, which I completely understand because styling your tablescape is such a lovely part of planning. But don’t forget the rest of the room too.
Some of the most memorable things I’ve seen at weddings here at Woodstock have actually been the unexpected bits around the venue.
A memory table full of family photos.
A fun guestbook idea.
A one off sign that completely sums up the couple.
A donut stand everyone talks about all evening.
A game that gets guests laughing during drinks reception.
Those are often the things people remember most because they feel personal and relaxed rather than overly “styled”.
Whether it’s photos of you both, a theme that means something to you, or simply details that reflect your style as a couple, these little touches are what make your wedding feel unique.
And that’s always the goal.
Not perfection and not copying Pinterest.... Just creating a day that genuinely feels like you.
One thing I always say to couples is don’t put pressure on yourselves to create absolutely everything from scratch either.
At Woodstock we already have lots of décor available for you to use, so you can focus your time and energy on the parts that really matter to you and the details that make the biggest impact.
That balance usually works beautifully and helps take some of the stress away too.
If you’re planning your wedding at Woodstock and you’re not quite sure where to start with DIY ideas, I’m always happy to help guide you towards things that will work well within the venue and feel true to you both.
